Low Carb Diet Basics – Cutting Carbs

By Mike Roussell · Friday, February 27th, 2009

Now, there is such thing as a ketogenic diet which I’m not going to

talk about right now because when we talk about these moderate low

carbohydrate diets, that’s what I want the focus of this video to be,

what we’re really talking about is a low starch diet.

Right and so starch is; those are going to be your breads, grains,

cereals, rice, pasta things like that. So, if you want to go on an

easy low carb diet, just make it a low starch diet. Eat more

vegetables, not corn or potatoes. Those kind of count as starches but

eat more vegetables, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, carrots,

onions, spinach; all those things. Make those your primary focus of

your carbohydrates and you’re automatically going to be put on a low

carbohydrate diet. Your carbs are just going to be reduced

automatically.

OK you want to try and get down initially to about 100 carbs a day. If

you can get in that range, you’re going to be in a moderately low

carbohydrate diet. You’re not going to worry about some of those nasty

side affects that sometimes people talk about. About being on very low

carbohydrate diets but you’re going to be low enough and you’re going

to be controlling your insulin which is very important for fat loss.

You’re really going to be able to see some great strides in your

weight loss.

When we’re talking low carbohydrate diets, initially the first place

you want to go is to a low starch diet which is going to be really

mainly focusing on fruits and vegetables and you’re going to be

cutting out grains and pastas and things like that.
